I have been studying and analysing companies since 2014. Although I did not have someone from the "industry" to teach me, I came across several good ways of learning the ropes of bottom-up fundamental investing: For example, becoming a CFA Charterholder, interacting with portfolio managers, reading (e.g., books, interviews, and substacks), and listening to podcasts, amongst other things. Of course, this went hand-in-hand with hundreds of hours of experience conducting deep analyses of companies. All of these have been key in my development, and I am confident that they always will be.
I consider myself to be a long-term value investor with an owner mentality. This leads me to focus on the business fundamentals and on whether the decisions taken by companies today are the best for their futures. Therefore, I am not seeking returns over the next few quarters or even the next two or three years. Instead, I am looking for companies that I can hold in my portfolio for decades. That said, I may occasionally spend time researching some “special situations” — investments where the time-horizon may be shorter.
In exchange for the value that I hope you can get from here, I would be grateful if you (my reader, from any level of background or expertise) could share the posts with others who might also find them interesting. My goal is to create a knowledge sharing community of like-minded investors, so please feel free to leave a comment or send me any interesting material.
